As Christians mark good Friday the world over, Christians have been urged to embrace patience and long suffering.
The Principal ,St. Augustine College, Rev. Father Sunday Ikpe OSA made the call during the reenactment of the passion of Christ at St. John of the Cross catholic church Mararaba by the youths.
According to Fr. Ikpe, the commemoration is done in honour of God’s love for us.
“It is a demonstration of God’s love for us. St Augustine would say if you are the only one in the world, God will still die for you because of your worth”.
” We are created uniquely and loved infinitely by God,also St. Augustine says God loves you as if you are the only one in the world so that is essentially why this is demonstrated every year on good Friday in memory of the death and passion of our Lord Jesus Christ”.
According to him, this love is great and beautiful and that is the essence of love.
Commenting on why good Friday is considered good despite the death of Christ, He says it is due to the salvific nature of Jesus Death.
Father Ikpe urged Nigerians to keep hope alive in the face of our current challenges as according to him, our victory is near. He said just as death only kept Christ for 3 days, Christians should know that the victory he won is ours and so we will overcome our challenges.
Catholics all over the world commemorate the death of Christ on good Friday by dramatizing the stations of the cross and veneration of the cross celebrated with a mass.
