Universities Avoid Physical Resumption Due to Covid-19_ Ephrem Cass

Following a statement from the National assembly claiming that it did not support the federal government’s January 18th resumption date for schools given the rising number of corona cases in the country. Lecturers of the Bayero University Kano have had a series of meetings to decide if to kick off academic activities or not. Leaving the students unattended to in the meantime.
The University of Benin has also asked all its students to stay home till further notice.
Lagos state University is set to kick off Academic work online and Several other universities are contemplating their next actions given the government’s directives and the Concerns of the Covid situation of the country.
It is safe to say the Government should have done better in its decision to Reopen schools during the second wave of the corona virus when the Vaccines are hopefully just a few months away thus endangering the lives of students and Teachers.
Asuu had expressed its concerns about the reopening of schools prior to the announcement by the federal government stating that they lacked the necessary facilities to ensure safety of staff and students.
