The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has fined Channels TV, African Independent Television, AIT, and Arise TV for their unprofessional reporting of the #EndSARS protests in the country.
NBC’s acting Director General, Prof. Armstrong Idachaba, who spoke at a news conference in Abuja on Monday said the three stations showed no professionalism in reporting the #EndSARS protest, especially the shooting at Lekki Tollgate in Lagos.
According to him , if the commission escalates the violations that emanated from the misuse of social media sources by broadcasters, sanctions according to the provisions of the law, NBC can comfortably shut the stations down.
Idachaba who said the stations’ reports were inciting , an offence capable of leading to a breakdown of law and order, said the option of the fine will serve as a warning to the stations and others.
