Minister of State for Transportation Promises Synergy With Female Drivers to Set up Female Transport Service_Ada Nkong

The Minister of state for Transportation, Hon Gbemisola Saraki has promised to collaborate with Female Drivers Association of Nigeria to set up a transport service for female drivers in Nigeria within the next six months.
The Minister who spoke during a zoom meeting with officials of Fedan said the female transport service will help take care of fears of rape, kidnap and ritual killing for female passengers. She said the scheme would be properly planned, technology driven and the female drivers would receive proper training.
According to her, female passengers will feel safer with female drivers.
” Female drivers are careful, not reckless and the risk of rape and ritualist will be eliminated “.
She expressed optimism that there is a huge market for female drivers because of security.
Hon Saraki said, to ensure equal opportunities are created for females , a gender desk is being created in the Ministry of Transportation.
She promised her ministry’s support in accessing funding for training and purchase of vehicles.
The Minister disclosed that talks are on with the Development Bank of Nigeria to get single digit funding spread over two years.
She applauded the female drivers association of Nigeria led by Ambassador Eunice Odeghe for their initiative and called for closer synergy. Saraki also urged them to take advantage of a female Minister in charge of land transport to move FEDAN to the next level.
The President of FEDAN Ambassador Eunice Odeghe thanked the Minister for the audience and appealed for her support to strengthen the association in the 36 states.
