Well meaning Nigerians in Diaspora under the aegis of the Nigerian Diaspora COVID-19 Eradication Support Group as well as other diaspora groups , including the Association of Nigerian Physicians in America ( ANPA) Nido Americas and Nido China have mobilised funds to procure Personal Protective Equipment worth a total of Forty- Eight Million Naira to flatten the curve of COVID-19 Pandemic and protect especially the frontline workers, .
The Minister of State Foreign Affairs Amb. Zubairu Dada assisted by the Chairman/CEO Nigerians in Diaspora Commission Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa presented the items to the Chairman and Members of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja.
The Minister expressed joy that all the items were locally produced here in Nigeria and commended the diasporians for thinking of their people at home despite the challenges they are facing in their various countries of residence. urged them to continue to contribute towards home
The Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission NIDCOM, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa while appreciating the gesture ,disclosed that every state will benefit from the items donated said the Personal Protective Equipment PPE are for Frontline medical and para medical staff in all the Teaching Hospitals and federal medical centers across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory FCT.
The Chairman Presential Task Force on Covid-19 Boss Mustapha represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Mr Olusegun Adeyemi Adekunle who received the fifty three thousand and thirty six items commended the wisdom of the Federal Government for establishing the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission for galvanising the Donations.
Meanwhile the National Coordinator COVID-19, Dr Sani Aliyu said the Donations will go a long way to help the front line workers in the states as the Federal workers were well provided for. He stressed the fact that the PPE’s are expensive and limited and as such should be used judiciously. To this end, he said 17000 personal have been trained across the country to ensure proper use of the PPEs..
Dr Abdullahi Dauda who along with Aisha Lekki from NIDO America represented the Donating diaspora groups assured Nigerians of their continued support adding that the Covid-19 war is a long war that requires unity to fight and win.
“This is phase one, we are going to continue getting more palliatives and items that are needed working with the NIDCOM and the PTF”.
” All the items in this effort were bought locally because we want to contribute to our nation building, we want to contribute to our economy”.
He urged all Nigerians to get involved to fight the deadly pandemic still ravaging communities.
The complete set of PPEs , described as durable , res usable and of very high quality ,donated by the Nigerian Diaspora Covid 19 support group , were all produced in Nigeria by Nigerians
