The need to allow Journalist practice freely without fear of intimidation by Government officials has been emphasized. The FCT NUJ Chairman Emmanuel Ogbeche made the call during his speech at the Inaugural Cross River State Journalist Forum Lecture/ awards at NAF center in Abuja.
Ogbeche stressed the need to diversify by building human capital and potential which he described as essential for the development of Cross River State and the nation by extension.
Chairman of CrossJof week planning committee Mr Ofem Uket who welcomed guests to the event said the awards were borne out of a need to appreciate Cross Riverians who had done the state proud by their achievement in their various endeavour.
One of the awardees, Captain Hart Modey, represented by Mr Frank Modey called for support for the deep sea project in Cross River State which he said has great potential for turning around the economy of the State. He appealed to the Journalists to promote the industrialization agenda of Professor Ben Ayade which he noted will create jobs and eliminate poverty in the state.
Awardees were four in all. The Minister of state power, Goddy Jeddy Agba was recognised for his role in energy development , Barr. Mary Ekpere-Eta ,DG Women development center was recognized for her role in uplifting women, Captain Hart Modey received Man of the year award for his role in youth empowerment while Dr Anthonia Ekpa was recognized for her contributions in the Transport sector.
Mr Gab Odu, Chairman CrossJOF congratulated the awardees and urged them to continue to work towards the betterment of the people.
Mr Frank Modey ,a former executive secretary ,local government education authority Ogoja who responded on behalf of Captain Hart Modey appreciated Cross River journalists for the award describing it as a motivation to do more.
CrossJOF is the umbrella body for journalist of Cross River State extraction practicing in the FCT. Members are drawn from different media houses both print and electronic.
