A Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry , Gishiri Parish elder ,who allegedly defrauded the FCT Chapter of Nigeria Association of Women Journalist to the tune of $ 5000 has been charged to court.
Elder Joshua Gborubo who is standing trial for Criminal Breach of Trust by diverting the money meant to organize Abuja State of Emergency Child Theft/Kidnapping, Trafficking and Adoption Bridge Collapse Programme has been remanded in Prison Custody at Keffi Security Prisons when the case was mentioned last week on Thursday at the Court.
According to the FCT Chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Stella Okoh-Esene, trouble started in May, 2018 when the Association rallied for support and sponsorship of the programme by distributing letters of requests to various NGOs which finally attracted an International Donor Agency that approved the sum of $5000 to be paid into a Domiciliary Account which NAWOJ was lacking.
Comrade Okoh-Esene said based on trust, Elder Joshua Gborubo, a Bayelsa State born citizen resident in Abuja who was referred to NAWOJ by its National President was allowed to provide his NGO’s Domiciliary Account Details and the money was paid.
However, after the money was paid in December for the programme to be organized, the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Church Elder shockingly disappeared and all efforts to reach him proved abortive as his phone calls were taken on his behalf by a woman who claimed that Elder Gborubo had an automobile accident in Bayelsa and could not speak himself.
The woman apparently acting on Gborubo’s brief promised to linkup NAWOJ with him when she returned to Abuja but never fulfilled her talk.
Luck however ran out of the Elder when the Executive of NAWOJ led by Comrade Stella Okoh-Esene led the Gishiri Police Post in a sting operation in March, 2019 and successfully apprehended the fugitive Elder in the Church Residence meant for the Pastor in charge of the Church.
He was from there transferred to Mabushi Police Station where he spent a week and three days for further investigation before he was subsequently charged to the Wuse, Zone 2 Magistrate Court One.
The accused told the Police and the Court that he used the money to treat himself contrary to the purpose it was meant for. The case has been adjourned for further hearing on the 28th of May, 2019.
Speaking with our Reporter, Emmanuel Tortiv in a telephone interview in Abuja after the Court’s sitting, FCT NAWOJ Chairperson, Comrade Stella Okoh-Esene expressed hope that Elder Joshua Gborubo will go to jail and equally pay for the money as a deterrence to others.
She expressed worry that a Church hierarchy that is supposed to purge society of ills and evil doers will be seen on the contrary accommodating persons of questionable character.
The NAWOJ Chairperson also expressed gratitude to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Mabushi Police Station, Mr. Badewole Bola for doing a professional job of charging Elder Gborubo to court without seeking or accepting any gratification from NAWOJ.
